‘Daredevil’ movie Justice is Blind
Case in point, the newly-released full-length trailer for Daredevil (watch it above) drives home the idea that this series presents a grittier side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, compared to what we’ve seen in the past. That doesn’t just include the “PG-16″ level of violence, either; that Murdock isn’t so much of a clear cut do-gooder as other Marvel superheroes is something that the newest preview addresses.
Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio has said multiple times in the past that hisDaredevil character (a..k.a. Wilson Fisk) is sometimes arguably just as much an anti-hero as Murdock’s Daredevil is, on the forthcoming Netflix series. The latest trailer even opens with Kingpin monologuing poetically about how the troubled world of Hell’s Kitchen is part of his DNA and it’s his job to attempt to save it. All the same, chances are that not everyone (in particular, Murdock) will be willing to believe that this raging, 280-pound bald man always has the best of intentions.
The Daredevil series will, like everything else released under the MCU banner, be connected to other characters and/or events in previously-released Marvel Studios TV shows/movies. Case in point, the latest trailer for Daredevil concludes with a on-the-nose joke/reference to characters like Thor, in case there was any lingering doubt that the series takes place after the events of previous Marvel movies, including the firstAvengers film. (And on a related note – am I mad or is there a Frank Miller cameo in the new trailer?)
Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus) and his Daredevil cast – which includes Rosario Dawson, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson, as well as Scott Glenn as Matt’s mentor “Stick” (featured via flashback in the new trailer) – have, by the early look of it, put together an exciting, fresh addition to the MCU. Indeed, between this series, the other 2015 Marvel/Netflix series (private investigator drama A.K.A. Jessica Jones), and the better-than-ever Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season two, Marvel’s small-screen efforts are perhaps just as interesting as the studio’s big-budget movie releases right now.
