India is creating its first smart city and its first international financial centre combined in one, and has much to learn from Dubai in that respect, according to a high powered Indian government delegation on a visit to the UAE.

“In India, we are currently working on creating India’s first smart city – which is also an International Financial Centre – GIFT (Gujarat International Financial and Tech city), said Jayant Sinha, Indian Union Minister of State for Finance, who led the delegation currently on a visit to the UAE.

Sinha addressed UAE business leaders on investment opportunities in India as well as visited the region’s biggest and oldest financial hub, the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

“I was happy to share my thoughts with DIFC officials regarding this new project and also understood the basic structure of DIFC and key components. We look forward to active cooperation from our DIFC counterparts to help us make GIFT a success,” Sinha said.

Looking to acquire DIFC’s best practices in creating a successful financial hub with world-class infrastructure, the delegation was hosted by Essa Kazim, DIFC Governor. Sinha was accompanied by Anurag Bhushan, Consul-General of India and T.P. Seetharam, Indian Ambassador, among others.

“It is indeed an honour to share our expertise with the Indian government and contribute to the country’s efforts in countering complex financial challenges. Today’s engagement presented us with an opportunity to establish greater synergies and share best practices for the wider benefit of the communities in both countries,” said Essa Kazim.

“The UAE and India share a mutual vision of working towards sustainable economic growth. Over the past 10 years, DIFC has recorded phenomenal progress and the contribution of Indian companies to this journey has indeed been noteworthy,” he added.

In a subsequent gathering of the UAE’s business leaders at the Taj Dubai hotel yesterday, Sinha discussed the ‘Make In India’ campaign as well as investment opportunities in India.

“As honourable Prime Minister said, we will roll the red carpet for the foreign investors and not red tapism. This belief forms a part of the ‘Make in India’ campaign,” said Sinha as he highlighted the role of India as one of the fastest growing economies in the world and outlined the investment opportunities available to investors across sectors.

“The Indian government believes in empowerment of the Indian people over merely providing entitlements. It is a pro-business and pro-poor government working towards creating jobs, which will eventually spur India’s GDP growth rate to 8 to 9 per cent,” Sinha added.

“We are greatly encouraged by the series of economic reforms that have been undertaken by the Indian government,” said Sheikh Sultan bin Sooud Al Qassemi, Chairperson, Barjeel Geojit Securities, which hosted the event along with Alpen Capital (ME).

“The historic economic cooperation between the UAE and India is a prime example of our strong partnership, but we believe that there are many further unexplored opportunities,” he noted.

The key business event was held under the patronage of the Consul General of India in the UAE and in association with the GCC Chapter of Assocham (Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India), India’s apex Knowledge Chamber.

“As one of India’s largest trading partners, GCC countries and foremost UAE provide tremendous potential for collaboration in keys sectors such as power, oil & gas, infrastructure, healthcare, tourism and sovereign investments, amongst others,” said Rana Kapoor, Assocham President.

“India is emerging as the preferred investment destination and large foreign direct investment are now being directed into various sectors of India. The UAE being one of the largest trading partners of India, it is imperative to strengthen this relationship further and facilitate more investment flows between the two countries,” said Anurag Bhushan, Consul General of India in UAE.

Over 12,000 divorce cases in three years

Over 12,000 divorce cases in three years
Experts believe social media main causes for high rate
By Emirates 247

More than a third of the cases were recorded in 2013. (EAY)

The UAE recorded more than 12,000 divorce cases in just three years and experts believe the spread of social network is one of the main causes for the high rate.

The divorces during 2011-2013 were mostly among Emiratis as they accounted for more than a third of the total cases while Abu Dhabi maintained its position as having the highest divorce rate among Emiratis in the country.

Figures by the National Statistics Centre for 2011-2013 showed there were 12,279 divorces and more than a third of them were recorded in 2013, with 4,233 cases.

During that year, divorces between Emirati couples stood at 1,749 and Abu Dhabi emirate, the largest and richest member of the UAE, accounted for nearly 71 per cent, with 810 cases, according to the report.

Dubai had the second highest rate with 355 cases, followed by Sharjah with 224 cases, showed the report, published in the Dubai-based Emarat Al Youm daily.

“Social experts warned of the steady rise in divorces in the UAE. They noted the negative effects of the social networks on marital life and the local community,” it said.

The paper quoted the experts as saying authorities should act to tackle this serious problem, which has made the UAE one of the countries having the highest divorce rates in the world relative to its native population.

“Authorities should move to solve this problem which is seriously affecting the local society.

"One of the solutions is to organize regular awareness and education programmes to spouses and offer incentives to working wives,” one expert said.

He report said other key causes of the divorces include unfaithfulness, a wide gap in educational levels between spouses and interference by the couple’s families.

It said many cases involved divorces just after wedding as either the wife or the husband suddenly changed their minds.

BEAUTY

Lip glosses are all the rage these days and it seems women stop wearing matte lipsticks at all. They complain that matte lipsticks dry out their lips and make them look lifeless. If your lips get dry easily, yes, it’s better to avoid wearing matte lipsticks. However, when applied correctly, your matte lipstick can make your lips look gorgeous in a jiff. Here are a few delightful reasons to wear matte lipsticks more often.
1. Matte lipsticks don’t smudge, bleed, and transfer

If you are a huge fan of bold colors, lip glosses might not be a good option for you. First, because they smudge and transfer. Second, because they don’t last long. Matte lipsticks don’t create a mess. They don’t smudge, bleed, and transfer. Most brides use matte lipsticks, but you can use it every day, not only on a special day.
2. Matte lipsticks are versatile

Matte lipsticks are super versatile. You can wear your matte lipstick each day and use it as a base. Simply apply a matte lipstick (preferably nude) to your lips, layer another lipstick over it, or/and add a dab of clear gloss to the center of your lips. You will have luscious lips in a minute!
3. Matte lipsticks are in vogue

If you want to look trendy all year round, give a matte lipstick a try! Matte lipsticks are always in vogue. If you’ve never used matte lipsticks, now is the perfect time to start. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different lip colors. It may be a bit scary and difficult at first, but in time, you will apply your matte lipstick faster and you won’t be afraid of bold lip colors.

4. Matte lipsticks look natural

When you love a natural makeup, a matte lipstick is a must. When applied correctly, no one will notice that you are wearing lipstick. Sure, it all depends on the color of your lipstick. Choose natural lip color to enhance your beauty and achieve a natural look. I love bold lip colors, but when I’m going on a date, a natural makeup is something my boyfriend adores. While some men love red lipstick on a woman, many won’t kiss a woman with bold red lips.
5. Matte lipsticks are easy to wear

Finally, one of the most amazing reasons to choose matte lipsticks is because they are incredibly easy to wear and you won’t have to worry about time. You can apply and be ready to go in a matter of seconds. Matte lipsticks tend to last longer, which means you won’t need to reapply it every 20 minutes, as with lip glosses. You can update your look instantly by wearing a red matte lipstick, or create naturally nude lips with a beautiful rose beige hue.

Most matte lipsticks are highly pigmented, so you can easily opt for bolder lip colors. Before applying your matte lipstick, you can apply a lip balm to prevent drying and chapping. Moreover, make sure you stay hydrated during the day. Dry lips are one of the signs of dehydration. How often
do you wear matte lipsticks? Do you think they are better than lip glosses?
